"As a visitor to Perth who likes to see live theatre, this was a terrific show in a great venue. The versatility and impact of the acting and its closeness was most appreciated."
Zen's Red Mouth audience member, July 2007

"Loved the show, I always enjoy the performances at The Blue Room. Artsy atmosphere, but not pretentious, cutting edge performances. Never boring"

Featuring Ethan Tomas, Claire Munday, Dan Luxton, Dave Maguire, Brodie Caporn, and Alex Manfrin as the Prime Minister.

In the lead-up to one of the most keenly contested federal elections in the last decade, comes a new satire from emerging playwright Anna Bennetts, inspired by her personal experience as a speechwriter.

Steve Hart and his friends Luke and Jenny have been mates since the current prime minister's reign began. Now a politically apathetic 20-something, Steve finds himself employed to write speeches for the manipulative PM (and his beer-guzzling immigration minister), and constantly at loggerheads with his left-wing activist mum as a result.

If you're not a socialist when you're under 25 you don't have a heart, and if you're not a capitalist when you're over 25 you don't have a brain!

A compelling drama that cuts to the heart of what being Australian means in today's political climate, The Speechwriter will make you laugh, cry, and reflect on the nature of families, intergenerational misunderstandings and the power of the word.
